Introduction to IT

Basic digital skills are essential for everyday life, from communicating by email to accessing services, applying for roles, and managing information online. For many people, however, getting started with technology can feel confusing or intimidating.

Our Introduction to IT session is a short, practical course designed to help learners build confidence in using everyday digital systems. It focuses on essential skills such as creating an email account, sending and receiving emails, and understanding how to access and navigate basic online tools.

Delivered in the supportive, practical Community Medics style, this session blends clear instruction with hands-on guidance. Learners are supported step by step, with time to ask questions and practise skills in a safe, inclusive learning environment.
 

The course covers the following subjects:

  • Understanding basic IT and digital terminology

  • Creating and managing an email account

  • Sending, receiving, and replying to emails

  • Understanding email fields (To, CC, BCC, subject lines, attachments)

  • Accessing and navigating basic online systems and websites

  • Simple online safety and password awareness

Duration

Our Introduction to IT session is delivered as a short, focused learning session designed for beginners with little or no prior experience of IT.

The standard course length is 2 hours of trainer-led delivery. The session is paced to allow learners time to follow along, practise key skills, and ask questions without feeling rushed.

All sessions are trainer-led and highly practical, with step-by-step guidance and individual support where needed. The course is suitable for workplaces, community groups, volunteers, and individuals looking to build confidence with everyday digital tasks.

For training delivered at your workplace or community venue, sessions can be delivered at times convenient for you and your learners, including evenings, weekends, and flexible delivery formats.

Certificates:

All our courses undergo a structured quality and content review before certification is issued. We aim to provide e-certificates within 5 working days of course completion. Hard copy certificates can be issued on request and are posted within 10 working days.

The Introduction to IT session provides an attendance certificate confirming participation and core learning outcomes achieved.

Certificates are valid for 2 years, reflecting the fast-moving nature of artificial intelligence and digital technology.
